On the Eve of Holocaust Remembrance Day, One Family Will Use Music to Share History

Dr. Melissa Kraut
6ͼ co-head of cello Dr. Melissa Kraut

To commemorate the 73rd anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, 6ͼ co-head of cello Dr. Melissa Kraut and her sister Rena will present their family’s journey from pre-war Poland to Palestine and Israel to the United States. The musical program includes chamber music for cello, clarinet and piano, alongside photos and stories that help relate the sustaining power of music through difficult times.

“Music, what inspired music and what inspired us to be musicians was so very important to Rena and me growing up,” Kraut explains. “While this program is reflective in many ways -- considering the very real challenges of escaping Nazi Poland – it’s also uplifting as we celebrate our collective history.”

Anita Pontremoli, head of 6ͼ’s collaborative piano department, and three of Dr. Kraut’s cello students collaborate on this moving program.

Seating passes are required for this concert; reserve your seats or call the 6ͼ Box Office at 216-795-3211.
